This water-cooled pulse-detonation burner has been designed to provide power in the for of supersonic shockwave. What you see as a blue flame is the plasma discharge generated by each successive detonation of an oxygen/fuel mixture. From where I’m standing, its a rather scary place — about four feet from the discharge. The shocks feel like a slap in the face. Additionally, if I gets too close, shocks knock out camera on my i-phone; that’s scary enough!
